Mike has nearly 25 years of professional project management experience in the manufacturing, engineering services, and business consulting industries. In his current leadership role, he has day-to-day accountability for IPM’s service operations, knowledge management, innovation, and business development efforts. Since joining IPM in 1994, he has led numerous projects, managed many client relationships, and supported the growth and diversification of the business. Mike holds a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Wisconsin – Madison and earned his MBA from the J.L. Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. He is a licensed Professional Engineer and earned his Project Management Professional certification through the Project Management Institute.

After earning his Master’s of Business Administration from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin, David Shaw served from 1992 to 1999 in the capacity of Chief Financial Officer and later as Chief Executive Officer at Pecos County Memorial Hospital in Fort Stockton Texas. Mr. Shaw accepted the position of Chief Executive Officer in 1999 at Nor-Lea Hospital District in Lovington, New Mexico where he currently serves today in a community of 12,000 residents. During his tenure, Nor-Lea Hospital District has seen a rapid growth in the scope of services and the size of the facility. In 1999 Nor-Lea Hospital District employed 5 providers and 89 staff members. Today Nor-Lea Hospital District employs 60 providers and over 530 staff members. The hospital is one of the largest Critical Access Hospitals in the country with approximately $100 million in net patient revenue and performing over 180,000 outpatient visits and nearly 90,000 clinic visits. Nor-Lea Hospital District has been highlighted in Modern Healthcare three times for being one of the top 25 most profitable Critical Access Hospitals in America. The District under his tenure has also received national awards in customer and employee engagement. This past year David Shaw was recognized statewide for his leadership skills with the “Don Chambers Passion for Excellence Award”. Nor-Lea Hospital District was named in 2018 as the recipient of the Quality New Mexico’s “Zia Award for Performance Excellence” New Mexico’s highest award for business excellence.

Responsible for overseeing the organization’s performance excellence program, Grace led the journey to the Rocky Mountain Performance Excellence Peak Award in 2015 and the Malcolm Baldrige National Award in 2018. Throughout this pursuit, she drove staff engagement with the Baldrige Excellence Framework through an integrated planning process. With twenty-five years of experience in health care, including sixteen in quality, Grace has served as a Malcolm Baldrige Examiner and held numerous leadership positions in the field of organ and tissue donation, including Chair of the Association of Organ Procurement Organizations Quality Improvement Council. A registered nurse, Grace holds Bachelor’s degrees from Regis University and Randolph-Macon College.

Lindel Fields, the Superintendent and CEO of Tri County Tech, could go toe-to-toe with any Fortune 100 CEO. He is fearless in the pursuit of excellence without being reckless. He is methodical with the direction and vision for Tri County and inspires his staff with bold intention. Tri County as a premier education institution and one of the only schools to decline federal funding in the United States. In fact, as a result of his inclusive and transparent leadership, Tri County Tech is the only public education institution on Fortune's Great Places to Work list, four years in a row. This past November, Tri County crossed a finish line ten years in the making when they won the prestigious award for excellence, the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. Leaders often ask him what’s his secret. How does he motivate a high-performing, grace-filled culture of excellence? His usual reply is, "our secret sauce isn't about doing things, it's about touching hearts. You have to touch their hearts before you can ask for their hands."

Melanie joined Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in 2013 as the Director of Marketing. Given that her career had been outside of healthcare, Melanie brought a new and different approach to the organization. In 2014, the organization identified a need for a different approach to business development, and Melanie’s role changed to include this. In addition, Melanie is responsible for the strategic planning process and has helped lead the administrative team through several cycles of refinement. Melanie has led the organization with their strategic 90 Day Teams and is proud of the accomplishments of the Memorial Hospital Workforce.

Lee Butler, a Michigan native, has lived in New Mexico most of his life. A 1976 graduate of Eastern New Mexico University, he started his career at Spartan Technology. Lee then worked at Honeywell Defense Avionics for 20 years where he gained his experience in Finance, Manufacturing, Program Management, Customer Advocacy and Quality Management. In 1995, Lee was instrumental in Honeywell earning the first Zia Award (Baldrige based) ever awarded in the State of New Mexico. In 2001, Lee started his new career with Don Chalmers Ford where his focus was on continued customer loyalty while instituting a high performance quality management system based on the Malcolm Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence. In 2016, after a 15-year journey, they were awarded the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. In 2018 Lee was awarded the 2018 Baldrige Foundation’s Award for Leadership Excellence in Business.

For the past three years, Lauren Ratliff has served as the Quality Assurance Deployment Lead in the Mission Assurance Division at Sandia National Laboratories. She is part of a team responsible for administering the Labs' Quality Assurance Program to cultivate a culture of problem prevention at Sandia. The team is also responsible for communicating Sandia’s Quality Policy to the entire organization. Lauren serves as a lead assessor/auditor to assess Sandia’s quality management system and identify areas for improvement. She graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Business and Marketing from Eastern New Mexico University in 2005 and later earned her Master’s Degree in Business from New Mexico Highlands University.

Dr. Ringer joined the VA Cooperative Studies Program team as a clinical research pharmacist in 2004, and is currently the Acting Associate Center Director for Quality Assurance. He holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Pharmacy from the University of New Mexico, and Doctorate of Pharmacy from the University of Colorado. As an investigator in clinical research, he has dedicated himself to understanding how interventions influence patient outcomes and ultimately improve health. Dr. Ringer believes these same principles can be applied to businesses to improve outcomes related to organizational performance. He has a passion for customer service and employee engagement: two key drivers of performance excellence. As a member of the leadership team, Dr. Ringer served as the point of contact and organizer for his organization's 2009 Baldrige site visit, the year it was recognized as a Malcolm Baldrige Performance Excellence Award recipient. He has been a guest on the QNM radio show, and presented on behalf of his organization at state and national Quality meetings.

Kevin worked 25 years as a NASA contractor in satellite ground systems testing and quality assurance. He became involved with ISO in 1996 using the 1994 standard (first NASA contractor to be registered). Kevin started working with Baldrige criteria at the state level (MD) in 1997 and won Senate Award for Excellence. He certified as ASQ Certified Quality Auditor in 1997 and completed ISO Lead Auditor Training in 2008. Kevin won the 1998 U. S. Government Technology Leadership Award as mentor for the Cooperative Satellite Learning Project outreach to high schools. He became an early Allied-Signal Six Sigma Green Belt in 1998. Since 2000, he has been a professional consultant in QMS auditing, training, and facilitating (15 clients have achieved ISO 9001 registration, over 50 registration and surveillance audits).

With more than 15 years of business management experience, Shauna Frost brings a strong quality systems approach and data-driven management focus to the non-profit world of meal delivery. Shauna began her career in Okinawa, Japan as the Consumer Relations and Research Director for Marine Corps Community Services. Prior to becoming Executive Director of Meals on Wheels of Albuquerque, Shauna volunteered with the organization, serving on the Board of Directors and delivering meals through the VIP Corporate Driving Program. Shauna has expanded the reach and recognition of the program over the past five years and has spoken nationally about her efforts. In her time as Executive Director, Meals on Wheels of Albuquerque has been named a Non-Profit of the Year Nominee, a Best Place to Work, and has received the 2018 Roadrunner Recognition for Performance Excellence. Personally, she is a 2016 recipient of the Albuquerque Business First Women of Influence Award for her work in advancing Meals on Wheels.

Tanja Jenkins holds an MBA from the University of New Mexico and has spent the past 27 years marketing organizations in restaurant, real estate, mortgage, automotive, and non-profit sectors. Tanja is an avid follower of the Baldrige Excellence Framework for performance excellence. Since 2004, she has published dozens of state-level and Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award applications for various organizations across the United States. In 2016, she published the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award-winning application for Don Chalmers Ford right here in New Mexico. She began her relationship with Meals on Wheels of Albuquerque as a volunteer driver and served as a member of their Board of Directors and the Marketing Committee Chair before joining their staff as Program Director in 2016. Since joining Meals on Wheels, Tanja has helped lead the organization on their performance excellence journey, receiving their first Roadrunner Recognition in 2018.

Allyson Roberts is the Chief Financial Officer for Nor-Lea Hospital District and has been at Nor-Lea for over 23 years. Allyson completed her Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting at Eastern New Mexico University in 1987 and became a licensed CPA in 1990. She worked as a controller in the insurance industry in Arlington, Texas prior to joining the hospital district in 1995. Allyson was born and raised in Lovington and loves the fact that she returned home to the community where she grew up. She is passionate about the work she does at Nor-Lea Hospital District and believes its Mission, Vision and Values make it exceptional. She loves serving the employees, patients, families, providers and community on a daily basis as the hospital continues to Enhances Lives. She also serves on several boards and committees including the New Mexico HFMA Board, the New Mexico Junior College Foundation Board, the NMJC Foundation Scholarship Committee, the Lea County Investment Committee and the Lovington Public Schools Audit Committee.

Lynda Davis currently serves as the Financial Management Director at Nor Lea Hospital District, where she leads the Revenue Cycle Process Team and assists in improving processes throughout the revenue cycle. She also oversees the daily operations of the Hospital’s Billing Office, the Materials Management Department and the Hospital’s Decision Support Team. Lynda first started her management career at Nor Lea working as the Health Information Manager and maintained that position for four years before transitioning to the finance department and her current role as a Financial Management Director. Lynda’s passion for analytics and process improvement is what propelled her to earn a Six Sigma Green Belt Certification that has empowered her to make pragmatic improvements to Nor-Lea Hospital’s financial analytics and decision support processes. She was consequently awarded an exceptional care award for Innovation through Nor-Lea Hospital’s Exceptional Care Award Program.

Krista currently works as Sandia’s Senior Manager of Program, Planning, and Controls and the Corporate Project Management Office where she is responsible for consistent, effective portfolio, program, and project management practices and tools across Sandia’s $3.6B project portfolio. Krista joined Sandia in 2004 in Supply Chain as Contract Manager on a half-billion dollar construction project. In 2007, she moved from Construction Procurement to Corporate and Strategic Purchasing where she competed, negotiated and managed multimillion dollar corporate-wide agreements; analyzed spend data; and led the corporate Reverse Auction initiative. In 2009, Krista was selected to manage the Monitoring Systems and Technologies Center Business Office and made significant contributions to center and division operational practices, especially in recruiting, hiring, and retention. During that time, she also developed and led the Business Community New Hire Program. Krista holds an MBA in Operations Management from UNM, a BS in Economics from TCU, has certifications in project management (PMP) and Supply Management (CPSM), and is a certified teacher for the “Getting Things Done” productivity methodology.

Rick Sherwood once made a voodoo doll of his boss because his boss was so terrible. When he’s not busy doing that he works as a manager and leader at Sandia National Laboratories. He’s also a master black belt – not the cool kind but the geeky lean six sigma kind. He loves audio books, has a wonderful wife, 3 great kids including a son that just moved to Prague and is passionate about effective leadership. He has a TEDx talked titled “AMP Up Your Leadership” and is always excited to learn and talk about getting the most out people.

Meghan has a BS in Chemical Engineering and an MBA from UNM. She spent ten years in the aerospace industry, most recently with SolAero Technologies here in Albuquerque, in various roles: PMP Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer, Process Engineer, Configuration Manager, Engineering Manager, and Manager of Continuous Improvement. She is now with Sandia National Labs where she is the Manager of Improvement Methodologies and Application, leading a team to solve labs wide problems with the user in mind. She champions a continuous improvement culture that supports turning all employees into enthusiastic problem solvers and solution owners. She is passionate about improving speed and flow with a customer focus through developing and supporting the people who perform the work. She leverages an ability to think strategically, act quickly, and develop people meaningfully to successfully execute projects. Her passion for excellent performance permeates to all parts of her professional and personal life.

Craig Nelson is a Data Scientist at Sandia National Laboratories within the Assurance Data Sciences organization. Prior to this role he worked as a statistician for Presbyterian Healthcare Services for 25 years. He oversaw all survey research at Presbyterian and served as a consultant to the organization on statistical matters. He was an examiner for Quality New Mexico every year from 1997 to 2008 and was a member of the National Baldrige Board of Examiners in 2009 and 2010. Craig serves on the Albuquerque Quality Network Board of Directors. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Virginia Tech and Master’s degree in Applied Statistics from the University of New Mexico.

Gail Hammer has been a New Mexico Quality Practitioner for 25 plus years. During her career, Gail served locally on Albuquerque Quality Network Board of Directors for over a decade. At the state level, Gail has been active with Quality New Mexico since its inception in numerous capacities, including the Education Training Team, State Board of Examiners, Board of Directors and currently serves on the QNM Panel of Judges. At the national level, Gail has been a Baldrige Examiner and is a Senior Member of ASQ serving on the NM Section Board of Directors for six years. Gail holds dual Quality Certifications; Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence, Quality Auditor and a degree in Behavioral Psychology. Her current position is Senior Quality Administrator for University of New Mexico’s Health System which includes Policy Manager for UNM’s Health Sciences and Project Lead for UNM’s Ambulatory- Transforming Clinical Practices Initiative. Although now in healthcare, Gail’s diverse background includes practicing quality at for-profit, not-for-profit and government entities, with experiences that range from protecting nuclear weapons to facilitating strategic planning with museum leaders.

As Manager of Supply Chain Engineering Department at Sandia National Laboratories, Dennis Owens conducts supplier assessments in support of the National Security Programs. In 2001 he joined Sandia National Laboratories as a Quality Engineer. Since then his career has spanned from Nuclear Weapon production and software/tester qualification to Advanced Concept and Technology Development (ACTD) programs for the Navy, Army, and Missile Defense Agency (MDA). In his previous management assignment, he created the Work for Others (WFO) Quality Engineering Department 2008. In his last assignment he managed Sandia’s Product Acceptance and Supplier Quality department, which provides supplier approval assessments and supplier product acceptance activities in support of Sandia’s Nuclear Deterrent Product Realization Teams (PRT’s). He is a graduate of New Mexico State University and is a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt.

Ms. Parsons began her career at Lockheed as a human factors engineer and astronaut trainer for the Hubble Space Telescope Project at the Johnson Space Center. MIQ guided two organizations in New Mexico which have received the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, conferred by the President of the United States: Los Alamos National Bank in 2000, and the Veterans Affairs Cooperative Studies Program in 2009. MIQ has provided services to the Department of Veterans Affairs since 1999. She is committed to improving the quality of life in New Mexico, and has served on the boards of numerous educational and arts organizations. Sherry is a trustee for the UNM Foundation and board member of the New Mexico Governor’s Mansion Foundation. An instructor at University of New Mexico, Management Development Center, Anderson School of Business from 2000-2010, Ms. Parsons received her MBA, 1989, from the University of Houston and her B.S. in Industrial Engineering, with honors, 1984, from the University of Arkansas.

Since I entered the workplace 40+ years ago, I have continually sought ways to improve the way we do work to achieve the outcomes we all desire. ISO is one method an organization can use to improve company and product quality. I have been passionate about effectively implementing quality management and systems engineering processes my entire career. My work history demanded a quality mindset including service in the U.S. Navy’s Nuclear Power Program, expertise for waste management and environmental cleanup at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory, directed energy development at Kirtland Air Force Base, electro-mechanical design/engineering management for an Albuquerque firm fabricating Synthetic Aperture Radar positioners for Northrop Grumman, and Corporate QA/ISO Registration at SNL. I provide the system, technical knowledge, and experience that enables Albuquerque manufacturing and service companies to obtain and maintain their company’s quality management system registration. I have my B.S. in Industrial Engineering, an MBA, and since 2010 have been an Exemplar Global Certified Lead Auditor for ISO 9001 and AS9100.

On July 14th, 2014, Al Faber was named President and CEO of the Baldrige Foundation. Prior to joining the Foundation, Al served as President & CEO of The Partnership for Excellence (TPE), the premier Baldrige-based state program for the promotion of performance excellence in all sectors of the economy. TPE is a volunteer-driven, 501(c)3 non-profit member organization headquartered in Columbus,Ohio, promoting the interests of performance excellence throughout Ohio,Indiana, and West Virginia. TPE has served more than 324 organizations that represent more than 1.7 million jobs at 1,769 work locations with revenues in excess of $139.2 billion dollars and more than 226.4 million customers. Prior to that, Al served in federal & state government culminating in executive positions and leading more than 11,500 employees, with 65 major facilities, a 250 million dollar operating budget and real property exceeding 2.1 billion dollars. He has provided executive leadership, establishing policies, priorities and oversight of federal budgets, operations and training, personnel, logistical operations and infrastructure management to include numerous construction programs. He is driven to create winning organizational results with a deep sense of commitment to public service. He has led his teams to two consecutive national awards in the Army Communities of Excellence competition using the Baldrige Criteria and also achieved both "Silver and Gold" status in The Partnership for Excellence State Program. Al has led department-wide organizational restructuring initiatives to meet the demand for greater efficiency and process optimization, while institutionalizing Lean Six Sigma, Balanced Scorecards, Strategy Maps and numerous supporting professional development programs. He believes in empowering employees, strengthening workforce engagement and promoting diversity and inclusion to fully engage all stakeholders. Mr. Faber graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Management from Capital University, Columbus, Ohio; and holds a Master of Arts Degree in International Relations from Salve Regina University, Newport, Rhode Island. He was also a National Security Fellow at the J.F.K. School of Government, Harvard University and studied International Leadership & Management at the Fletcher School of Law & Diplomacy, Tufts University. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army War College Fellowship program and the U.S. Naval War College Command & Staff Program. During his military career he served as a Senior Army Aviator and Instructor Pilot in attack, reconnaissance, and transport helicopters. Al has served on numerous Boards of Directors for the past two decades. He is a member of the American Society for Quality (ASQ), American Mensa, several conservation organizations, and is active in his church.

Emily Gaffney is the Department Manager of the Laboratory Operating System End-to-End Solutions Team at Sandia National Laboratories. The team’s purpose is to bring useful approaches, including lean management, to Sandians to help them improve the speed and flow of their work. As a lifelong New Mexican, Emily has always wanted to work at Sandia. Now as the manager of the LOS team, she gets to work with great people and apply her passions of problem solving and building connection. Emily’s career highlights include leading the quality program at and R&D site of The Boeing Company, fundraising for an international non-profit, and making a killer Americano at Starbucks. Emily holds both a Bachelor’s and Masters of Business Administration from New Mexico State University and University of New Mexico.

Maureen Baca began her personal and professional Baldrige Journey of Excellence in 1992 when she learned not only how to spell Baldrige, but also how to use it. Since then she has served 23 years on the National Board of Examiners for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award. A resident of Albuquerque since childhood, she attended elementary, high school and college here. Since completing her master’s degree at UNM she has staffed and managed major programs for the City of Albuquerque, the Department of Energy and Sandia National Labs. As founder in 1982 and President of The Computing Center Inc., she consults locally and nationally with the leadership of large and small organizations in both the public and private sectors, including numerous New Mexico Performance Excellence Award recipients and one Baldrige winner. Maureen is also the President of the Board of Directors of the New Mexico Philharmonic, the first arts organization to apply for and receive QNM’s Piñón and Road Runner Awards. She is a member of its senior leadership team.

Mr. Randy Simons works for PNM Resources located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Mr. Simons current role is the Director of Generation Services responsible for Fuels, Water, Regulatory Matters, and Operational Excellence. Prior to this move, he was the Director of Management Systems. During his six years as Director of Management Systems, Mr. Simons was responsible for the enterprise wide continuous improvement initiative. Management Systems is the center of excellence for process improvement (Lean and Six Sigma), project management, and business analytics. Prior to working for PNM Resources, Mr. Simons spent six years at Honeywell as a Senior Technical Manager responsible for Engineering/Operations and was certified as a Lean Expert. Mr. Simons also spent ten years with Motorola as an Engineering Manager responsible for new product launch and was trained as a Six Sigma Black Belt. Mr. Simons currently teaches a series of Lean courses at the University of New Mexico Executive and Professional Education Center. Mr. Simons received his MBA from the University of New Mexico. He also holds a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin – Platteville. He lives in Albuquerque with his wife and has two adult children.

She has a bachelor of Science degree in Nursing, with experience in critical care, and has significant experience partnering with executives to achieve successful transformation engagement outcomes.
