About

Simple Gifts is an upbeat, comedic drama about aging with grace, courage and humor.  An older man and woman grapple with their grief and healing with the potential for rekindled friendship.  After flight delays on a stormy night, a recently widowed man (age 70) arrives at an airport hotel lobby, where he encounters a partially disguised woman about his age.  She engages him in conversation, including her emotional disappointment during her grief when widowed several years ago.  She offers him now what she was not offered then, but he struggles to decline.  The next morning he discovers secrets that motivated her offer last night. Yet she did help him emerge from his deep grief, despite her ulterior motive.  When she reveals another shocking secret, he turns the tables and offers her a precious gift for healing.  Because William's offer would turn her world upside down by intruding on her habitual control, she initially rejects it.  He persists, forcing her to make one of life's most difficult decisions. This is a staged reading directed by Jane Ayles, featuring Tym Thurston and Steve Moser.
