An enrolled citizen of the Chemehuevi Indian Tribe, Romero was raised between contrasting settings: the rural Chemehuevi reservation in Mojave Desert, CA and the urban sprawl of Houston, TX. Romero’s identity informs her photography, a blend of fine art and editorial photography, shaped by years of study and a visceral approach to representing Indigenous and non-Indigenous cultural memory, collective history, and lived experiences from a Native American female perspective. "Faces From The Interior: Director’s Cut" 40m 02s In 1833 and 1834, Karl Bodmer, traveled along the Upper-Missouri as part of the Prince Maximilian expedition. The images that Bodmer sketched and painted are historical art documents that are iconic in present day America. Faces From The Interior, addresses the impact of those inspired images among the direct descendants of the Mandan, Hidatsa, Arikara Nation. Which, were a few of the many indigenous nations the Prince Maximilian Expedition made contact with.
