The Art of Plant Propagation Discover the magic of growing and multiplying plants in this hands-on, fun-filled week of exploration! Campers will dive into the fascinating world of plant propagation, learning practical skills to grow new plants from seeds, cuttings, air-layering with root balls, soil layering, and dividing. Campers will plant their own vegetable and flower seeds while uncovering the secrets to successful germination. They’ll learn when to pre-soak seeds, which plants need to start in a greenhouse, and which can be direct sown. Campers will also grow fast-sprouting microgreens that they can harvest by the week’s end. While most new plants won’t be ready for harvest, campers will enjoy the exciting opportunity to pick vegetables from plants previously planted and ready to harvest on the farm, tasting the rewards of a flourishing garden firsthand. Throughout the week, they’ll explore the essentials of propagation, from trimming plants and taking cuttings to root, using air-layering with root balls to encourage roots to grow on branches, to layering stems to force new roots. Campers will also practice dividing perennials to create multiple plants from a single source. As they work, they’ll gain valuable insights into the balance of soil, water, sunlight, and nutrients that help plants thrive. Perfect for kids who love getting their hands dirty, this camp offers practical skills, fresh veggies, microgreens, and a deeper appreciation for how plants grow—from propagation to harvest!
