IMPORTANT: If you plan to attend dinner or participate in the other activities, please select those options as well. Michael Seidel is a musical storyteller and service leader. He explores Jewish practice through contemplative rituals of original song for meditation, healing, and holidays. Michael’s music is inspired by American traditional music, liturgical and Torah chant, and a touch of musical theater. He has over twenty-five years of musical experience, from classical davening to avant-garde choral music, from opera to nigunim. After attending the Building Singing Communities intensive with Joey Weisenberg in 2013, his musical talents found meaning and a home. He began participating in and leading singing circles and brought meditational chanting into his service leading. He has been honored to be guest shatz (service leader) at congregations in Seattle, Albuquerque, and San Antonio. The Shabbat that Parsha Beshalakh is read is known as Shabbat Shira. In this parsha, we find ourselves on the shore of the Sea of Reeds and launch into an undulating song that we still sing to this day every morning. This special Shabbat coincides with Tu b’Shevat. On this mystical New Year of the Trees, we note the sprouts of new growth on the trees, the first inkling of the Earth awakening from winter slumber. Shabbat Shira offers us a chance to explore the connection between song, redemption, and the natural world. Some parts of this event may require reservation to participate such as candle making and Shabbat dinner. Please secure your ticket below. Click to view the flyer for more details. Shabbaton week was made possible by a generous member of CBI, a grant from United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, JPI (Jewish Programming Initiative) and members of Congregation B’nai Israel.
